Marnie

wow, I can't believe the last time I posted was in August. That's pretty disgusting!! Anyway, today I had the pleasure of meeting Marnie. A fellow photographer who lives in Arizona. She was in Florida for work and so we organized to meet up. It was a blast. Thank you my friend and you know that if I ever find myself on the west coast, I'll be calling you.
Thanks for the wonderful company.

A Way of Life

While in Barbados, we wanted to bring back a real souvineer for the family that was looking after our house while we were away. It can be hard to find something locally made that you can pack and trust it won't be in a million pieces by the time you get home. You know how hard the airline baggage handlers can be on your bags!
We decided a conch shell that you can blow. Blowing a conch is something you hear at a cricket match in the W.I. It just isn't the same without it. Anyway......... we drove around quite a bit before we found this man selling conch shells on the side of the road. He had to saw off the top and make a small hole which is where you would blow to get that nice familiar sound.
What better way to communicate over several acres than to blow a conch? We bought 2. One for us and one for our friends. It also serves as a "come home" sound for my boys. And yes, I can blow it!

OK this..........this is pretty disgusting. But it's real. Real life. At my regular hang out place in Barbados, home of the Action Man, Brian Talma - Action Beach as they like to call it now, I think formally called Silver Rock Beach. Across the street is a rum shop and every weekend, the locals love to gather and banter about all sorts of things. They get into heated arguments and can be very loud, but at the same time, very entertaining. This group of men bought a pig head and they decided to cook it on a make shift stove top and boil it in sea water....... yes, full of sand as well. By the time they eat it, they'll be so drunk, they won't even notice the grit from the sand. Not my choice of food for a Saturday afternoon.

Concorde

After checking in for our flight back to Miami from Barbados, we find out that the flight is over 4 hours late (American Airlines). With a lot of time to kill, we decided to go to the Concorde museum, right across from the airport. It was a really, really well put together presentation. I highly recommend the museum. The guides are well informed and answer all questions you might have. You get to go inside the Concorde and watch a short presentation, operate the seats and have a look at the cockpit. There are visual simulators that you try out your flying skills and an observation deck where you can see Grantley Adams Airport runway.

The simulator.

The observation deck.

I love this shot.

Beautiful Barbados

I have so many photos that I'd like to upload, but it would just be a total bore. We were away from July 4 - 16th. The boys surfed every day but one and Dereck had all the wind he could want. He ended up kiting in the afternoon when the sun was best for photography. It always ended at a friend's house close to the beach for a shower, beer and some ole' talk........ then leave. What a life!

The most beautiful place to kite. Talk about faking it! Not enough water to have a satisfying kite, but worth it for great shots. Long Pond at Foster's Fun Land. Trust me they are right by calling it a pond.

One afternoon at Long Beach.

At Bathsheba, holding a tame monkey called Coco. Photo taken by Gary Foster.
These photos were taken at The Animal Flower Caves in St. Lucy. Very northern point of Barbados.

Back in Time

Balandra Bay, Trinidad. We spent a weekend there in 2003 in June. Decided to visit Trinidad and stayed with some good friends of ours, Karen and George Vieira. Thanks, guys, I always remember this holiday. I had a lot of fun. I was browsing my CDs and came across the photos and did a bit of reminiscing.
Remember that photo of the "Alien" chasing Ryan? Thanks for that George! LOL!

This was taken in Antigua at a quiet beach called Coco Beach. Such a lovely place to be.

My boy Tyler and the fake rain. Kane was holding the hose for me while I shot Tyler. He opened the umbrella on the count of 3 and I caught it at that moment. Water spraying off the umbrella crashing into the water from the hose. I love this shot.

Shilouette

I have nothing to say today. I feel like being challenged. This is too easy in photography, but I challenged myself in Photoshop with layers and such. I had fun!

something different

So I'm starving to be creative. I had an idea. Something sparked my imagination and I just went with it. Some face paint, 2 boys and a shower curtain.
It's pretty dark, but it works. It's what I wanted to accomplish.

A little later on, they were swimming in the pool. You would think I would process the photos to look like they were having fun, but the paint and plastic had me in a dark place.

Once again, I painted Kane's face, but this time I used white paint as well. Don't worry, it's certified face paint. Got out my strobe and black backdrop and fired a few more.
